Welcome to the website of the Belper Backpain Clinic Ltd. In this website it will tell you about the Belper Backpain Clinic who we are and what we do which includes Osteomyology, Physiotherapy, Therapy Massage, Remedial Massage, Neuro-muscular Massage, Mobilisations, Manipulative Therapy, Electrotherapy, Sports Therapy, Remedial Exercise Therapy, Reiki, Hopi Ear Candles. Both together the clinic offers patients a combination of therapies to address a number of problems and as we say in “OSTEOMYOLOGY”, it describes exactly what we do. We are practitioners in bone, muscles, ligament, tendons and nerves, using the appropriate discipline that we are qualified in and are available to us, to bring relief and healing to our patients. As you see we are not Osteopaths or Chiropractors we are Osteomyologists; Osteo - Bone, Myo - Muscle, Ology - Study. We treat muscles as well as the joints, as we believe that any affected joint will have an effect on the muscles connected to that joint. We treat the patient as a whole not just a problem in the “back,” or “neck” etc. Before we commence any treatment we perform a full neurological and physical examination first and only after a full consultation do we advise the patient of our findings and suggest the relevant treatment, with their signed approval. London Marathon
On Sunday 22nd April Tracey and I had to get up earlier than normal, to get to the train station and then onto London Arriving there at 10 20. am then to catch the underground to Charing Cross then walk to the Lord Mayors Banqueting Hall where we were to treat the runners running for the Children with Cancer Charity. We had 1300 runners competing in our Charity, this year and hoped to raise £2,000,000. As we are a relatively small charity this is our main fund raising event. If you were one of the millions who watched it either live or on TV we are the ones in the Mr. Men and Little Miss costumes and running vests. As we got to the venue at 11.15 am I had time to run across the Horse Guards Parade Ground to watch the First runner finish then run back for the pre treatment talk. Unfortunately it started before is was supposed to so I missed the start of it, but as this is about our 10th year of helping I have a good idea what the format is. A majority of the team went up to get some dinner. (Not many can say that they have had a free meal at the Lord Mayors Banqueting Hall). After lunch the runners started to come in. Our complement of helpers was 4, Doctors, 3 Paramedics, 8 Medics, 2 Podiatrists, I as Sports Therapist and Manipulative Therapist and about 50 Sports Massage Therapists. (There were 35 from just one Training School some qualified and some students getting hands on experience. It also counts as 7 C.P.D. hours. As there were far more Massage Therapists that the room (or plinths) could cope with a number including Tracey went outside just outside the finish with a number of mats for the runners to lie on for treatment, Apparently most of the runner took advantage of this and it meant that we actually saw a lot fewer than we would do normally, (thanks Tracey and crew) although this was great while the sun was shinning but as the numbers got larger the heavens opened and the Therapists were give poncho’s and hoodies to try to keep them warm and dry. The plinths were set out so that there were three therapists per 2 plinths. Two treating and one at the runner’s heads talking and checking their vital signs. Unfortunately as I use a Neuromuscular Massage technique I am on my own. I have the runners sitting up facing me, so I can keep an eye on them as I work. Unfortunately I had 3 ladies collapse while they were on my couch and had to call the Doctors over while I lowered lay them down covered them with a blanket and gave them a drink of Lucazade. Although I was responsible for them and got them back to normal and on their feet I took time. (One took 35 minutes.) It meant that I could not be treating any other runners at the same time. So with looking after these 3 and Tracey and team out on the “Mat” I had a relatively easer day than normal. But even so it was about 7.00 pm before we could pack up and get the underground train to the station to catch the 8.30 train back home therefore not getting home until 11.45pm. But overall it was as usual a great day and knew that we had helped some.
