Other symptoms include panic attacks weakness anxiety, poor concentration weakness, inability to exercise word mix-up. There may also be respiratory muscle dysfunction, atypical chest pains. These aches and pain may be very seasonal. Other things that can cause the condition to worsen are stress, cold damp environment depression and anxiety. These symptoms are not unlike M.E. but instead the main problem being tiredness it is pain and not just in one area, it can appear anywhere in the body both muscular and skeletal. IS BACK PAIN COMMON?

Backpain is one of the most common ailments in Briton today. The cause is as diverse as could possibly be. Each person is an individual and as such is capable of injuring themselves in a multitude of ways. There is also the hereditary aspect the can have Ligament laxity pass down from parent to child. - Having the Ligament not strong enough to hold the joints together when the body places the torque s and stresses on the ligaments in the normal every day activities. On top of these there is the condition when a mother has her second child. When she is pregnant the Ligaments of the pelvic girdle relax in order for the baby to pass through.. Unfortunately it is quite common for the first child to be carried on the hip causing the ligaments to not be able to go back to their original length. This will therefore be an injury waiting to happen because it is only the ligaments that hold the bones together in a joint. Another problem is sports related - especially not warming up enough or thinking that the body is actually fitter than it actually is. Also the problem with sports injuries is that a lot of athletes insist on continuing with their sport and we have to work around this (if possible). Of course there may be many other reasons for back pain and these have to be checked out at the first consultation and examination, with the appropriate action taken to account. Whether that is for referral to the patient's GP or to other practitioners, but with the majority of patients attending this clinic, some if not total relief from pain can be obtained, providing the patient is prepared to carry out advice and continues treatment until discharged.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID DEHYDRATION SHOULD SPORTS PEOPLE TAKE THIS SUMMER?

Body temperature is very important and is regulated by evaporation, radiation and convection. Evaporation is the bodies most used form in sport therefore taking on more fluids is the most important. There are a lot of considerations to take into account humidity, wind speed, solar radiation and reflection from objects -water glass, etc. Evaporation ceases when water vapour is 40mm.HG and a slower wing speed slower rate of sweat evaporation. This may come in the form of, heat exhaustion, heat cramps or heat stroke. Heat exhaustion has a slow onset caused by water salt and other mineral depletion. It has often been said that by the time you feel thirsty it is too late. Heat cramps are possibly caused by intracellular water and electrolyte disturbances. Heat stroke occurs when the bodies' temperature is allowed to rise unchecked. This can be a very serious problem affecting the Kidneys, Liver Heart, and Circulation. It is always advisable to seek medical advice when this occurs. So the best precautions are to keep the head covered. Drink plenty of fluids i.e. water + electrolyte liquids. Keep a check on the heart rate and body temperature. Try to train outdoors when the sun is not at it's strongest i.e., 2-4pm.

HOW CAN I TAKE CHARGE OF MY LIFE?

There are certain things that we all can do to take charge of our healthy life. By eating healthily in other words a well balanced diet. Milk/dairy, meat/protein, fruit /vegetables, bread/cereal. All in moderation. Limit your fat intake (although you have to have a certain amount daily). Avoid over eating, it is said you should stop eating before you feel "full". Learn to relax, just sit quietly or have some gentle relaxing music playing, close you eyes take some deep breaths and visualise some special place when you would like to be. If you have problems talk the out with someone, family, friends or a professional counsellor. Manage your time wisely, try to prioritise things in your life but don't try to do them all at once. Most important do something enjoyable, remember "all work and no play…."
